Eva Kusuma Sundari, S.E., M.A. is a politician, academic, and activist known for her strong commitment to social justice, women’s empowerment, and government transparency. She served as a member of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR RI) representing Partai Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan (PDI-P), a political party in Indonesia, for two terms (2005–2014 and 2016–2019), where she was recognized for her outspoken advocacy for inclusive policies that supported marginalized groups.
Before entering politics, Eva worked as a lecturer and economic researcher at Universitas Airlangga and also served as a consultant for The Asia Foundation on issues related to democratic development.
Her academic background has greatly contributed to her ability to shape and promote public policy. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Economic Development from Universitas Airlangga, and pursued graduate studies in Alternative Development Strategies at the International Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, as well as in Economic Development at the University of Nottingham. These academic experiences helped shape her critical and progressive approach to development and governance issues.
Outside of parliament, Eva is active in various civil society networks. Since 1998, she has been a member of the Indonesian Women’s Coalition and the East Java Women’s Caucus. She also serves on the Steering Committee of Forum Indonesia untuk Transparansi Anggaran (FITRA). Her involvement in these initiatives reflects her alignment with the values and mission of the Partnership for Governance Reform (KEMITRAAN), which aims to promote transparent, participatory, and equitable governance. Through her work across politics, academia, and civil society, Eva has become a prominent figure in advancing governance reform in Indonesia.
