Binny Bintarti Buchori is an Indonesian civil society figure with extensive experience in social justice, democracy strengthening, and governance reform. A graduate of English Literature at Gadjah Mada University, she pursued postgraduate studies in Library and Information Science at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, England. While studying and living abroad, Binny was active in international solidarity movements, which shaped her commitment to the values of inclusivity, justice, and participation.
Her early career began as a journalist at The Jakarta Post, but she later became more involved in civil society organizations. Binny served as Executive Director of the International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID), a strategic forum championing development justice. She is also the founder of Perkumpulan Prakarsa, a public policy research institute focusing on social welfare, sustainable development, and equitable fiscal policy. She also led Ashoka Indonesia, an institution supporting social innovators to create systemic change.
Through advocacy, research, and strengthening civil society, Binny contributes to building a more participatory and accountable governance ecosystem, a vision aligned with KEMITRAAN’s mission to strengthen transparent, responsive, and inclusive governance. Binny’s experience across various sectors demonstrates the critical role of civil society in driving policy change and institutional reform in Indonesia.
