Binny Bintarti Buchori is a prominent figure in Indonesia’s civil society with extensive experience in social justice, democratic reinforcement, and governance reform. A graduate in English Literature from Universitas Gadjah Mada, she later pursued postgraduate studies in Library and Information Studies at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, UK. During her time abroad, Binny actively participated in international solidarity movements, which shaped her strong commitment to inclusivity, justice, and participatory values.
Her professional journey began in journalism at The Jakarta Post, but she soon shifted her focus to civil society work. Binny served as Executive Director of the International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID), a strategic platform advocating for justice development. She also founded Perkumpulan Prakarsa, a policy research organization focusing on social welfare, sustainable development, and equitable fiscal policy. In addition, she led Ashoka Indonesia, an organization that supports social innovators driving systemic change.
Through her advocacy, research, and civil society engagement, Binny has played a vital role in fostering a more participatory and accountable governance ecosystem. Her work aligns closely with the mission of Partnership for Governance Reform (KEMITRAAN), which promotes transparent, responsive, and inclusive governance. Her contributions across various sectors highlight the critical role of civil society in advancing policy change and institutional reform in Indonesia.
