SUSTAINABLE

Development

Development carries a noble goal: to create public prosperity. However, the benefits of economic performance have not yet been fully felt by all Indonesians, particularly vulnerable groups. This is evident from the widening income disparity among Indonesia’s population.

The acceleration of development across various sectors, particularly land-based development, has generated numerous challenges, including land tenure conflicts, threats to livelihoods and living spaces, especially for Indigenous peoples and other vulnerable groups. Inequality in access to natural resources in Indonesia also remains significant. As a result, 10.2 million people living in 25,863 villages within and around forest areas remain poor, while government programs (Agrarian Reform and Social Forestry) have so far only resolved part of these conflicts.

KEMITRAAN seeks to ensure that government efforts to achieve development targets take into account the impacts on both ecosystems and people, so that no one is left behind. This is pursued by promoting development that prioritizes the preservation of natural resources and social welfare, especially for vulnerable groups, while also safeguarding the rights and opportunities of future generations.
