Creating peace in post conflict regions

Tuesday, October 04, 2011

The recent conflict in Ambon indicates that special attention and hard work is needed from all parties to build lasting peace. Kemitraan with the support of the EU, held training in the Conflict Early Warning Early Response (CEWER) System for youth leaders, religious leaders, government officials, NGOs and others who have influence and a desire to build peace in their own region.

The objective of CEWER is to identify and respond the potential cause of conflicts as well as to mitigate the negative impacts post conflict, including refugees. The training has been delivered in three post conflict regions (Maluku, NTT, and Central Sulawesi ).

“The most important thing needed to make the CEWER system effective, is the active commitment of multistakeholders to maintain peace in their regions,” said Rasyidi who is in charge of CEWER project at Kemitraan.

After the training, participants will formulate follow up action plans to ensure the CEWER system is effective.
