Security and Justice Governance

Goal: To promote democracy, human rights, accessibility and sustainability of the security and justice sector through strengthened institutions which are transparent, participatory and accountable.

Security and justice reform is critically important to the Indonesia reform agenda. It is only through the full cooperation and competent administration of this sector that Indonesian measures to enact governance reform can take root and grow. It’s a highly sensitive area because it includes reform of military institutions, police forces, and the judicial system.

It is only with effective law enforcement, supported by an independent and impartial judiciary, that rule of law will prevail over the vested interests and corruption which continue to undermine Indonesia’s full potential.

The SJG cluster works to improve transparent governance in the following areas:

  1. The Criminal Justice System
  2. Policing
  3. Defense policies and military institutions
  4. Combatting trans-national crime
  5. The state’s intelligence and control functions
