Public Service Governance
Goal: To establish a decentralized, effective, and accountable public sector that respects the rights of its public and accelerates economic growth and increased public welfare.
Good governance is all about the delivery of basic social services by competent, responsible and accountable institutions. It is how living standards and quality of life can be improved.
But delivering quality public service is fraught with difficulty and challenges. Under Indonesia’s rapid process of decentralization, responsibility for most public services has been transferred to district level administrations. At present there are 470 district level governments and many of these administrations lack standardized procedures, and have ill defined roles and responsibilities. The Partnership’s activities under the Public Service Governance cluster (PSG) focus on enhancing the role of local constituents and civil society to ensure that local administrations carry out their responsibilities in a transparent, accountable and participatory manner.
The PSG cluster’s programs are currently focussed on the following :
- The Grand Strategy for decentralization and regional autonomy
- Improvement of civil service systems
- Revitalizing the village government systems
- Improving public welfare through economic sector reform
- Consolidation of public sector reform under the designated authoritative agency.
- Public Service Governance
- Democratic Governance
- Security and Justice Governance
- Economic and Environmental Governance
